Research Scientist: Senior Computational Biologist

Highlights:

1. Leads Computational Biology projects for Next-Generation sequencing. Plans and conducts novel analyses of Next-Gen sequence data, defines computational tasks needed to make data available, and develops custom software as needed. Collaborates closely with the Bioinformatics Support lead for Next-Gen sequencing, the sequencing lab PIs and research scientists to ensure that the computational needs of next-gen sequencing and analysis are appropriately met. Duties/Responsibilities Works in conjunction with Senior Computational Biologist to establish project goals consistent with Next-Gen sequencing group goals which reflect core lab and research client needs. Provides project oversight in order to maximize effective use of project resources. Facilitates information flow between team members, the project leader and senior management and other parts of the company.

   Maintains positive interactions with the clients and initiates and coordinates the decision-making process. Works under limited administrative/strategic direction. Self-directed in technical efforts. Educational Qualifications Desired PhD in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related field and minimum of 2 to 4 years of related experience or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience preferred.
3. Masters degree in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related field and minimum of 6 to 8 years of industry related experience required.
4. Post doctoral experience may serve as experience. Competencies and Experience Desired Demonstrated experience working with high-throughput sequence data. Experience using software for alignment, assembly and analysis of Next-Gen sequence data.
5. Proficiency in programming using perl, python or C in a unix environment. Research experience in plant genetics or molecular biology. A working knowledge of statistics, especially statistical methods appropriate for high-throughput biology. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
